HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 28

Requesting that the East Street Bridge, spanning the Little Kanawha River connecting North and South Parkersburg in Wood County, be named the "William P.A. Nicely Memorial Bridge."

Whereas, The East Street Bridge spanning the Little Kanawha River on alternate Route 14 is in the County of Wood and William P.A. Nicely was born on October 23, 1922 and, until his death on July 26, 1991, served Parkersburg for three terms as Mayor and, additionally, served Wood County as a member of the House of Delegates from 1955 to 1958, 1965 to 1970, and from 1983 to 1985; and
Whereas, William P.A. Nicely fought for the demolition of the old bridge and the construction of a new bridge spanning the Little Kanawha River uniting North and South Parkersburg; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the East Street Bridge spanning the Little Kanawha River between North and South Parkersburg in Wood County be named the "William P.A. Nicely Memorial Bridge"; and, be it
Further Resolved, That a sign be erected at each end of the bridge in a manner that motorists approaching the bridge may easily view the name of William P.A. Nicely; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the county commission of Wood County, the secretary of the department of transportation and the family of William P.A. Nicely.
